Mission

Summit

Co-hosted by the European Baptist Federation and the Baptist World Alliance, SENT 2021 is an opportunity for Baptists to gather together with a strategic focus on both the privilege and responsibility we share in God’s global mission.

In our time together, we will share inspiring testimonies of what God is already doing through Baptist churches and unions to spread the Good News of Jesus Christ and how it is changing lives and transforming communities.

We will hear from gifted keynote speakers as well as insightful Bible study and seminar leaders, collectively listening for God’s voice in directing us in mission for the future.

We will accept the challenge of putting into practice all we have been learning about church and mission through the COVID-19 crisis.

Through inspiring worship, prayer times, and sharing meals together, we want to encourage and support one another, building our friendships across nations, cultures, and languages –expressing our solidarity in Jesus Christ who unites us all together.

You are warmly invited to come and be part of SENT 2021!

Bible Study

Over three morning plenary sessions, we will explore Matthew chapter 10 together. In this chapter from the Gospels, we see Jesus sending out the disciples with the task of proclaiming the kingdom of heaven. As we seek to learn more about this text and to better understand what it means to be a messenger of and witness to Jesus, we’ll hear from leaders across the European Baptist Federation and the world. After each session, our Bible study leaders will also enter into conversation with others who will be invited to bring questions and offer different perspectives.

Seminars

We will offer a stimulating selection of seminars that will be rooted in the practical experience of living out the Gospel and God’s mission in our contemporary world.

We are hoping our EBF Mission Partners will make a major contribution to this as well as different parts of our EBF family. We are especially looking for some of the mission ‘pioneers’ amongst us that can help shape our thinking for the future.

If you are such mission pioneers and interested participating in this, please contact Helle Liht.

Children's Programme

There will be a children's programme for ages between 5 to12.

Translation

We expect to have various languages represented at the conference. To accommodate different language groups and to offer a simultaneous translation, we plan to use the smartphone application Interactio

Worship

Worship and prayer will be at the heart of SENT 2021. We want to reflect the Book of Revelation in its descriptions of all the ‘tribes and tongues’ coming together in praise before the throne of God!

As we pray and sing God’s praises together and as we listen for his Word to us, we believe that the Holy Spirit will speak powerfully to each one present.

Our main worship band will be from Tistedal Baptist Church in Norway. This is an experienced, multi-generational worship group that is capable of leading with different worship styles.

But we also want to welcome groups of singers and/or instrumentalists from the different nations of the EBF. Outside the main sessions, there will be informal opportunities for music groups to perform. Please contact us if you would like to bring such a group.

There will be dedicated times of prayer in plenary sessions and in smaller groups. A prayer team will also be available to pray with you as well as a dedicated Prayer Room for individuals.

The

Venue

SENT 2021 will be held at the Stavanger Forum. It is one of the largest conference and exhibition centre in Norway. It is co-owned by a large church congregation with room for more than 1,700 participants. It is an ideal location for us to meet and seek God together, get to know each other, eat together, and have a meaningful fellowship times.

The venue has plenty of spaces for parallel seminars and activities. It is about 4 kilometres away from the centre of Stavanger, although most of the accommodation is within walking distance of the venue.

Micheline

Costantine Makkar

Micheline Costantine Makkar, a mother and wife from a Lebanese background, has served all her life and witnessed many lives change as they accept Jesus Christ. Micheline and her husband, Pastor Gamal Makkar, moved to Syria and started the Life Agape Ministry in 1997. By registering Life Agape as a non-profit organization in the accordance with the Syrian government, they were able to show the Jesus Film to thousands and distribute the Bible to every home and child.

They produced the Syrian international film “Damascus” in 2009, which talked about the relationship of Christ and Damascus through the story of St. Paul. At the beginning of the war, God changed their vision to empower the church as the body of Christ, leading them to start what is now one of the biggest churches in Damascus.

Currently, Micheline and Pastor Gamal are directing Gain Ministry in the Middle East and North Africa. Micheline addresses the impact of the war on women and children and the opportunity she has had to walk alongside hundreds of women who have suffered in this crisis. Micheline has a huge heart for the Syrian people and loves sharing this passion with others.
